childhood memories of imagination and freedom
CHILDHOOD

Enjoy your childhood while you can
For all too soon grown you’ll be a man

For now within your own imagination
The world your oyster – for your creation

Your eyes are limited by what they see
With no restraints your mind can run free

As a child with no adult delusions
You create your life – your own illusions

Imagination – boundless in innocents and youth
Employ your own rules – make your own truth

Oblivious now to grown ups conformity
Explore your world in its enormity

Pretend is the game children truly play
Without the adult pretence – easy is their way

Tree turns to castle in our minds eye
And from its turrets on the world we spy

And with no thought of physical danger
On highest bough – now a forest ranger

Hand now a gun – An American detective
Finger on trigger you target selected

A super hero with enormous strength
You save the world – go to any lengths

Hidden compartments and secret passages
A special agent you decode enemy messages

Exploring the ocean you discover Atlantis
Back on land fight a Praying Mantis

A racing car driver you grip the wheel
No doubt you’ll win with nerves of steel

Be a cowboy if you want to win
Unaware of white man’s callous sin

Paris, London or Timbuktu
Travel anywhere your mind takes you

Be the good guy he always wins
The villain left to pay for his sins

Shipwrecked upon distant shore
A dessert island for you to explore

Oil rig on fire – your Red-A- Dare
To your talents no one can compare

Through eye of the hurricane in ocean liner
Decorated with medals – no captain finer

Transported now into outer space
Slay hideous alien with gruesome face

Back down to earth and the sun is setting
And off home you must be getting

Dismissal, rejection or broken hearts
In your world play no part

For you make the rules as along you go
Each thought a seed you reap and grow

Dusk now brings your day to its end
Tomorrow another adventure for you to befriend
