A high school reunion is a chance to contemplate the lives we had before we were wise |
Before We Were Wise It’s been twenty-five years since the night we escaped When we took our diplomas and made for the gate When those hats with the tassels went up in the air The “Fit-hit-the-Shan” and we broke out of there Some stayed in the valley and some fled to the shore Some learned a profession and some entered the Corps Some worked with their hands to make useful things Some sat at a desk to make telephones ring There are those who are bosses and those who get bossed There are those who are sober and those who get sauced There are those who are single and those who are wed And some who were wed are now single instead There are shapes that have changed for the good and the bad There are some who are happy and some who are sad There were roads that were chosen and bridges we crossed Loved ones were born and loved ones were lost The courses we chose have now molded our souls They’ve played with our dreams and twisted our goals The passions of youth are still passions inside But the older we get the better they hide So every five years there’s a time to reflect A time to refresh … a time to connect It’s a time to examine our lives from young eyes Before we were old and before we were wise |
