I wrote this for my English class.
Silence reigns in untroubled mind,
Time passed through splitting of seconds through consciousness.
A hint of boredom inspires wishes for company,
But a second’s thought turns peace to disarray.
Furtive glances reveal no visitors and the night blots from chance any possibility of sight

Beyond the electric light and candle atop the wooden stool,
The placidly smooth veneer peeled from the stress of the candle’s heat.
