Why does heartache hurt?
It hurts because there is no single point in your body that you can point to, and say: “that hurts.” You know your heart is aching, but when you are hurt that deeply, where is your heart? You cry out in the darkness, hoping to find and pinpoint the exact location. You grab your chest, your legs, or your head; anything that could be a cause of this anguish. You need something to blame in your body for all the pain. But it never comes. You continue to cry….you feel the endless sorrow, yet you don’t know how to heal it; there is no remedy for what you don’t see.
And so, while in the deepest of agony you begin to go numb. You cannot concentrate on a singular area of discomfort, so why concentrate at all? Slowly the pain seeps deeper into your soul…hiding until it is called upon again. You are never the same. Your pain is a lesson learned, and whether for better or for worse, you are changed. That is why heartache hurts.
