How do you tell someone how much it hurts you to see them in pain?
We were just having,
One random conversation,
And you said to me –
“There are no blue skies,
In my heart anymore.”
And then I knew,
You were lost to me.

No longer could I grasp
The workings of your mind –
In your head I would become
A shade – lost and pointless.
I wondered if you could see,
How you were driving me
So far away from yourself.

But even when I went,
So silent and still by your side,
You never noticed the disruption –
You kept blithely on about
How this one and that one
Were suddenly ignoring you-
Why did you wonder why?

I knew why, but I couldn’t say.
Didn’t you see it in my eyes,
The things I wouldn’t say
Because it might hurt you –
Oh tell me you knew
That I didn’t just desert you
Because I no longer cared…

You never cried that day
That day I went away –
For with no blue skies,
How could one tell the difference
Between one storm –
On your life’s ocean –
And another…?
