All things come to those who have hope.
Earth Calls

Night falls and shadows are moving
Creeping slowly, grayly toward me.
I let them come to me,
For they will hide me well.
No one will know where I have gone,
And they will never find me.
I keep my secrets as promises
Here in the dark.

Do not speak to me of hope!
Leave me here in the dark,
Which encloses and comforts me.
Go from me now and let the shadows
Continue their creeping,
Until the dark is full.
Do not speak to me!
I am so tired.

I will lie here as the moon rises.
It sees me down here.
Do not throw earth on me!
I have not died or mean to!
I only wish to be left alone.
Do not plead with me!
I may grasp your hand when I am ready,
And you can pull me out.

The blackness closes in,
Do not speak to me of hope!
I will not answer for I must think.
The worms know I am here,
But I am not yet theirs to feed on.
I will not give up my life for his.
I only need to rest my eyes
Until the dawn.

I awaken to daylight,
But I am not afraid.
The sun cannot blind me here,
It peers around the edges,
But offers nothing new,
Save another day of empty light.
I will stay awhile longer.
I will be ready soon.

Dirt falls into my eyes.
There is no room for you here!
They are already full of tears.
Are you still there?
Do not be afraid for me.
Somewhere above I hear a child laugh.
I'll stand to hear her better.
Oh..I can feel her smile.

Why do you sigh for me that way?
I told you I only needed space
And time to think.
I believe the earthworms will get
Their due another day.
Please move away from me.
I will do this alone,
Or not at all.

The damp earth gets under my nails,
As I begin to climb.
I do not need your hand,
I am much stronger now.
I feel the soft edge here
And I can pull myself up.
The child is here.
She gives me a flower, and I smile.
