Poem in memory of a loved one who was killed in World War I
AU CLAIR DE LUNE

You plucked my heart when shone the moon
And stars gazed down to light the shore
But life's bell tolled for you too soon
When bomb blasts roared and sparked much gore.
I saw but once the place you fought
Where poppies spring in blaze of red
Their petals cast in the brisk wind caught
In the fields marred that mark the dead.
