A child comes to put all his trust in his father, only to find...
Untamed and free, a joy at heart
Of greenest earth and bluest sky
A child’s trust
Two bloody knees
A father kneeling by

“Daddy, it hurts, and I’m so scared
Please don’t make me try again”
A strong embrace
And scratchy face
A whisper from a friend

“Just one more time son, don’t give up
Or you’ll never learn to ride
I’ll hold you firm
I promise that
Now get back on your bike”

Training wheels abandoned for
A hand placed firmly on his back
A thrill of fear
A rush of speed
Twin circles humming black

The boy screamed, “Daddy, don’t let go!”
As the wind pulled at his hair
And turning round
The child found
His father wasn’t there
