When you think you've met the man of your dreams.....
I had about an hour to kill one Sunday morning. I kept seeing this add for a phone chatline, so thought I would try it out. There were many nasty men on the line, but some nice ones as well, I just had to sift through the yucky ones.

I received a message from a very nice sounding man and his first message went like; "Hi, how are you? You sound nice and I am looking for new friends as I am new to the area" and he sounded very nice. I had listened to his posting as well and realized he was quite far away from where I was at, almost a whole state away. I replied with; "Hi there and thanks for the message. Unfortunately, I am clear across the state from you, but how's it going? What are some of your interests and what do you like to do? Are you a music fan and if so, what kind of music do you like?" We sent a few more messages and then connected for a person to person or "live" chat. We talked about many different topics and seemed to have a lot in common and then I realized I needed to get going as I had some things planned for the day. I asked if he would like to trade numbers and if it would be alright if I called him later on in the evening. He stated "yes" and asked what time I would be calling and we exchanged numbers.

That evening, I called him and we ended up talking for nearly 7 hours. In the beginning of our conversation, I had asked if he liked children. He stated yes and that he had a 6 yr old daughter. I stated I had an 11 yr old son. We discussed parenting and life experiences and much more. It was almost as if we were the same people, but he was a man and I am a woman. It was as if "fate" intervened for both of us. He seemed to be everything I had dreamed for in a man. After that, we began talking every night for at least 2-3 hours and sometimes as much as 6-7. After a week or so, we discussed being boyfriend/girlfriend. I asked him for a copy of his ID as I was skeptical as had not met or seen this person "in person". He sent me a copy of hisID & Social Security card as well. He had it to me within 30 minutes of my request for it, some of the numbers were blacked out as that is secure information, but I felt much more safe and thought, WOW - this guy really is serious. I was really excited as he seemed to be the man of my dreams. A couple years before I had met him, I had wrote on a piece of paper all the things I wanted in a man and he by far exceeded the list.
He had asked me if in the next 2 weeks, he could take me on a date. I asked if 3 weeks would be alright, and explained I was very busy with work so I could take time off for a trip I was getting ready to take with my son. My son is in Judo and was invited to a tournament which was out of town and a couple hours away. When I mentioned that, he asked me to ask my son if it would be alright if he came along and watched as well. I had talked to my son prior to this and let him know that I met a man that I liked and may be going on some dates so he already knew about him and when I asked about the man joining us, he said "yeah, he can come and watch me". I had planned some cool things to do already but the man and I began planning some things for all of us to do together.
The weekend/meeting was a week and a half away. We continued to talk every night and spoke the morning of the day we were supposed to meet. I really liked this man and it seemed mutual. I had made dinner reservations and a very neat restaurant. The day of leaving to meet, so many strange things happened in the morning before I left. It was a morning from hell, but I had decided that I would not let it ruin my day and continued as planned. We got on the road and did the few stops we needed to before we got to the hotel. I was supposed to meet him at the hotel and then we would go to dinner. I was not far from the hotel and running a little late as had just missed the ferry and had to wait 50 minutes for the next one but was first in line.
I called the hotel to speak with him and that is when I was told that no one by the name I asked for had checked in and there was no reservations for that name. Before that point, I had completely trusted this person. I did not have doubt that we were going to meet, just was very nervous about meeting and was hoping that I would be everything he wanted, as he seemed to be everything I wanted. I at first was worried as thought maybe something horrible happened and did not know what to think. I was also dissapointed as I had really thought things were going to work out and be great. I made 3 phone calls to the number I had and sent an e-mail. I haven't heard anything since from this man. I had told many of my friends and family about him, so was quite embarrassing and humiliating to have to come back and say "I was stood up". I did not let that ruin my time and still had a fun time with my son who is one of the most wonderful persons I know. I think he was more bummed out than I was which I had no idea was going to happen and had not planned for that. He did great in his tournament and it was fun to watch. We did some shopping and exploring in the town we stayed in, as well as had an excellent dinner at the nice restaurant I had made reservations for. I am torn, as part of me is angry that I fell for a fake and the other part of me still wonders; "did something happen so severe that he could not pick up the phone?". I still have no idea and definitely do not understand why I was stood up. Regardless, I feel that he missed out. At first I missed talking to him, now, I don't want to talk to him, even if he called me. It SUCKS to be stood up and I don't think I will put myself in that kind of position again.
