A bizarre memory of my early school days
CHILDHOOD MEMORIES: a sonnet

I tasked myself to find a memory
Of childhood that I still do remember.
And, believe me that it was too gory
To retain at all in my mind’s chamber.

It dates back to when in the school foyer,
At the age of about eight or nine years,
A friend said his father was a lawyer
And had a pistol, don’t know for what fears.

I asked him, (I wonder what reason be),
That since I had never seen a pistol,
Could he bring it to school just to show me,
(The purpose to me was clear as crystal).

Doubt I did not have in my mind a bit.
I would shoot myself in the head with it.
