Part 1:
Answer True Or False and briefly explain.

1. Very young children are your primary target for picture books.
False. When writing in the very young children category the primary target for picture books should be the adults who choose and buy these books for the young children.

2. Easy Readers are marketed to both young readers as well as adults.
True. In this ‘Easy Readers’ category the young readers are beginning to form their likes and dislikes towards certain things and are able to express them but the buying power is still very much in the hands of the adults to buy or not to buy the book.

3.Children who read Chapter books and Novels are the only market you need worry about.
True and False. For the writer writing Chapter books and Novels it is true she needs to examine this market carefully. It is also quite a big market covering a transition group from Easy Readers and young readers embarking into the young adult audience group. Sometimes the young adult audience seep back into this category because of some interesting and well-written books.

For the writer who is only in the picture books category it is false as she is writing picture books and the primary market and audience of these books are the adults. Although the writer should give Chapter books and Novels some consideration if she is able to as this category is huge and appeals to a wider range of children’s age.

Briefly explain why you agree or disagree that ‘the golden age of the reader’ is from third through sixth grade.
I agree that the third through sixth grade is ‘the golden age of the reader’ because it is at this age that these kids begins to start discovering things and people around them. The line is thin between real life and the fantasy for this group. It is the anything is possible sort of age and where the imagination knows no bounds. It is the golden age for these readers as well as writers writing in this category. Although I would include the ‘Easy Readers’ in the golden age if I hold the powers that be because this age is also impressionable and I feel the age of discovery has its seed  in this age group.
