About an ancient native tribe and love lost. |
Serpent People Long ago, there lived an ancient people with ancestors that were born from serpents. Their native land ran along the river now called the "Colorado". This ancient tribe was ruled by a very powerful priestess, Lyre, whose ancestors had ruled since the beginning of days. Possessing the mystical powers of the "Serpent", she would perform the ceremonial "Dance of the Serpent" on holy days. However, as the holy days approached, Lyre was plagued with an ill-fated curse. Mojavi, the tribe's medicine man, failed to cure her, his magic potions futile. Raging inwardly, unable to save the priestess, his love, his intended wife, Mojavi journeyed to "Serpent's Hill" and made a secret pact with the "Ancient One". Unbeknownst to Mojavi, Lyre woke, miraculously cured soon after his ill-advised pilgrimage to pledge his soul to the "Ancient One", hoping to trade it for Lyre's life. The wily "Serpent" then transformed into Mojavi's own image and appeared to Lyre as her true love. Having thought him lost to her forever, Lyre lay with him in a lover's bed. Upon waking, she bore the "Serpent's" mark and realized her mistake. When Mojavi returned, at first he was over-joyed that Lyre had recovered from the curse. Rushing to her, he held her tenderly, then saw the vile mark across her brow. His love was alive but she was not saved, she would forever be the "Serpent's" bride and he was condemned to be their servant. Writing is my Guiding Light Mysticroz |
