The sea stretched out and around, a vast silk blanket shimmering with jagged mirrors. The tiny People on the shore, they couldn’t see its breathtaking beauty. To Them it was a sleeping monster, pointy teeth gnawing away what they lived on. They could only stare from Cesper Beach, chained by Their fear. Children chased the waves back playfully, and then ran away shrieking as the ocean seeped out. Men and women lay sunbathing on the coast, giant, dark sunglasses covering Their closed eyes.
They thought about the ocean all the time. Yet, no one dared creep into its mysterious depths. They swam gingerly in the shallows, mouths pulled into frowns. They surfed over the billowing waves, sped over in quick motorboats. But They only felt the empty wind and sea spray across Their yearning faces.
All Their lives They kept reaching, beaded hands outstretched; grasping nothing again and again. And to think, all they had to do was fall backwards into the lapping, dancing ocean! It was in back of them the entire time.
