As we walk toward forever, you will pause briefly and ask me "Who? Who are you?" |
Me? I am— I am a puzzle, riddling the world with visions of dawn. I am the fire, burning brightly ready to take on humanity. Or maybe, I am simply the ashes leftover from that which burned too long ago for anyone to remember the blaze. Ashes I am, and ashes I was dust caught in this mighty wind, tickling your shoulder, easily brushed off and forgotten. I am your coat, perhaps; I protect you, keep you warm, shelter you through wind and rain. But where is my armor? For I too can fall apart and one day soon you may outgrow me. What use would I be then? I could be the ocean churning furiously, an untamable, wild stallion, cold and unforgiving as death. Or perhaps my waves lap gently at the shore and you will leave footprints in the wet sand. But, you see I am. I am an enigma, a conundrum, a question. I am the silhouette by the window Who appears blurry through the frosted glass. I could be your problem and your answer… and you will never know. As we walk towards forever, We will pause briefly and you will ask me, Who? Who are you? I will glance behind us and then fix my gaze on the horizon, as I reply Me? I am a mystery. |
