A companion to Rings, my first poem.
Sometimes I wish that I could have been spared
The pain of losing you, it was almost too much to bear.
The hard times we went through, often outweighed the good
I guess it had to end, just like all things should.

Oh, how I wish I could have helped you,
Understood you the way you needed to be
But I did love you - god, how I loved you -
And I knew that you loved me.

But things change, and people too,
It's an unfortunate fact I've found to be true
You had certain needs I just couldn't fulfill
And you just couldn't stand my irrepressible will.

Understand that neither of us were wrong
But the fates we fought against were a little too strong
I hope you can find someone to fill you with love
But don't mourn an ending we couldn't rise above.

I'll always be there for you... I promise.
