It began with a smile
A brush on the cheek
A flirtatious laugh
With a hand on his knee.

It grew over late night calls
And desire-filled letters
Their lust craving passion
And their encounters mere pleasures.

It ended on her bed,
Where they met many nights before,
The lovers caressing each other,
Behind the locked door.

She had finally heard him say it
The 3 words she feared and loathed
The light came on in the hallway
Her husband said “Honey, I’m home”
