a day through the eyes of a drug addict
Addiction

Drowning in the unending desire;
the craving for a hit.
It will raise me up; exhilarate me.

And so here I am again,
the place I swore never to return.
The “dealer” faces me, regarding me with dark eyes.

I pay him for the very thing that will kill me,
that is killing me now;
taking over my life.

Trapped inside a broken world,
numbing the pain with my dirty secret.
Inhale. Hold. Exhale. A false freedom.

It traps me; destroys me.
How long will I have to wait,
until my body hits the floor.

I sacrificed my body, mind and soul to this evil;
seeking relief from life’s cruel blows.
I chose the dark path, blinded by warped insight.

I could have had it all– even just a future would be
enough. But instead, here I lay... alone;
defeated and dying in a gutter.

Everyday life will be like this
until my fast approaching death consumes me,
brought upon by my ultimate mistake.
