Ornamental Reflections

Evergreen greetings echo
around me as each person gives stale words a fresh sound.
The seasons gathering
of family like last year's lights
all jumbled and twisted up
as they spill forth. Some lit, some twinkling
while others have passed the way of well loved decorations.
Colored stockings of gold and green line the hearth
as this red letter year winds down into memory.
New angels have joined us...
to herald the night with mommy soothings.
Holy mangers in both crech and bedroom hold
this season's offerings.
We lowly men seek wise gifts--
wrapped bells of angel's winging.
A sleigh year, a wondrous ride
and now as midnight looms
we sip of each other,
savoring the flavor of the year reflections.
