A list poem about the problems of humanity
The Fire in Humanity

I celebrate humanity and its spirit,
enduring for so long,
through so much pain and suffering,
through years of conflict,

We’ve made it, surviving,
even through the closest margins.
From the ease and simplicity of the world at peace
To the hardships of wars
To even the brink of catastrophe,
That was the war of chilling fear.

We’ve changed from a culture focused on surviving,
of eating, drinking, procreating, sticking together,
to a culture focused on death and personal gain,
of suicide, money, downing our sorrows, pain, isolation.

Humanity has changed little through the ages,
with the hatred of sex, love and pleasure,
and the love of war, violence and death.

We’ve fallen to a place of evil,
where children are taught the greatness of hate
from games, to music to programs, and preachers
but most especially from the news and their parents
where hate and prejudice is accepted and encouraged
from pedophiles, gays, and lesbians,
to other religions, skins, intelligence, nations.

We’ve moved from a society of acceptance,
where people could use many different talents,
where the insane were the humor of the town,
to a society of prisons of conformity,
where society is of people, who think alike,
clones thinking behaving and working alike,
where norms rule all and similarities are valued.

We’ve fallen from the simple stick found on the ground,
a tool used to beat back opponents with,
but to do no harm,
to metal spears that can fly around the world,
and destroy nations.

We’ve evolved from simple territory defending,
where people were bruised or sometimes killed,
where people walked away and challenged no more,
where people had honor, lived by a code of ethics,
where leaders led their armies into battle,
where leaders were great strategist and warriors,
to devastatingly advanced killing machines,
where people were slaughtered mercilessly,
where whole towns were wiped off the map,
where nobody walked away, they crawled,
where people hid from conflict, or betrayed each other,
where leaders were the richest, or more selfish,
where leaders hid behind walls in the comforts and security
where a push of a button could send thousands or millions to their death,
where strength of body or skill was useless and it all came down to was who had the bigger club.

We’ve moved from the rule of one to the rule of many,
from the terrors of the strong, to the terrors of the weak
from the terrors of one rich, to the terrors of many rich,
from the terrors of few selfish, to the terrors of many selfish,
from the terrors of the powerful, to the terrors of the cunning,
from the terrors of the brave,  to the terrors of the cowardly,
from the terrors of inheritance, to the terrors of the elected.

We’ve fallen from a society of equality, where people bartered,
everyone gained and lost something,
where people haggled and everyone got what they wanted,
where people were happy because they got what they needed,
to a society of currency, of selfishness, and greed,
where people want to gain more then they want to give,
where the rich and poor are established
where the rich horde and the poor horde,
where the rich don’t have to work but gain a lot,
where the poor work but gain little.

We’ve fallen from the society, who only took what was needed, who gave back thanks,
where we found uses for everything, we caught, or picked,
where we honored our gods for thanks for allowing us to survive,
where we honored the food and thanked it for its sacrifice,
where we spent time outside enjoying the world,
where we cared about the world and all its beauty,
where there never was any wants only needs to survive,
to a society where we grabbed as much as we could haul away and gave back nothing,
where we found use for only the best parts, that we harvested or butchered,
where we didn’t honor our gods for thanks for allowing us to survive,
where we don’t care the food or for thanking it for its sacrifice,
where we spent time inside in misery,
where we cared only about our own selves and ambitions,
where we could careless if the world died, or was altered,
where the need to survive was lost over the desires for lifeless objects.

We’ve fallen from a society where love was plentiful and trust was everywhere,
where farmers always had the best tasting crops,
where artisans took pride in their work,
where objects lasted through time,
where love was valued,
where sex was a gift,
to a society of hate and distrust for each other,
where farmers went for the nicest looking crops
where artisans spend more time mass-producing them, then enjoying them
where objects last seconds,
where love is disliked,
where sex is a crime.

We’ve changed from a people, who depended,
on their own hair for protection from the elements,
who walked, naked, who hunted, naked, who didn’t care, about exposure,
who didn’t care about appearance, only strength of character,
to a culture of depending on fabrics to cover ourselves,
who walked, clothed, who ate, clothed who cared, about exposure,
who did care about appearance, who hid, their looks through surgery,
who hid, their looks through paint, who hid, their sexual organs as if they were ashamed.

We’ve remained sexually active though all these years,
from times of openness to times of concealment,
from times of worship to times of sin,
whether forced, or desired, sex with the opposite has remained,
the only one valued, but the other forms can’t be denied,
the ones disgraced by society, the ones forbidden,
the ones shamed, the ones that despite what we are forced to believe,
are as old as humanity itself, the ones of youth and ones of same,
and not forgetting those of both.
Yet why should they be bad since when is it a terrible thing to love?
Does it matter whether the love of your life is the same or different sex,
Whether the love is years younger or years older?  Does this truly matter?
NO! I tell you it does not, love is love the feeling between two bodies.
Our culture tells us it’s against discriminatory acts and comments.
then funds discriminatory acts itself advertising hate and prejudice,
though this time its not the color of the skin but by something similar,
the attractions of our bodies, it like the skin cannot be changed.

We’ve fallen from the heights of simple life and enjoyment,
and landed in the pile of conformity and pain,
yet survived we have, changed, yes and drastically.

We’ve fallen on many different levels and many different topics,
we’ve moved from one terror to another terror,
we’ve endured many pains and conquered them
but darkness spreads across the land,
hatred is growing, a new evil has come,
an unstoppable force of immeasurable power
we sit here, encourage it, help it,
with our mistrust,
our close-minded attitude,
our lust for money, wealth, power,
the fire of humanity is dieing
the light that has let us endure so much,
is leaving,
but the truth might be hard to bear,
but it needs to get out, this evil,
this curse that puts out our fire,
we spread it,
we crated it,
we encourage it,
we must stop it,
we must love,
we must care,
we must open our minds,
we must help,
we must relight the torch keep it lit
we must survive.
