I sit in darkness weeping
While my soul slowly withers away
saddened by the image of my father's silence
leaving me to fend for myself
banned and forbidden to return
I let every tear slide from my cheek
and dissolve into the ground
I lie back in the sand
hoping a wave will swallow me whole
and take me out to sea
Where I can sleep with the fishes tonight
living on only in memory
But the waves aren't strong enough to carry me away
I look up as the sun rises just above the horizon
I wipe away my tears
and remember my grandfather's words
This too shall pass, tomorrow will be a better day
I get up and walk home
looking forward to a brighter tomorrow
