A short poem about independence inspired by a character of mine.
It looks as though she stands alone
As strongly as she ever did.
That youthful independence
Coming through as strong as ever.
But she keeps up a cool façade
And lets them all believe that she
Is cheery as she ever was,
Not bleeding from within.
Your faux independence may
Keep you alive, but darling,
It won’t kill you to admit
You need him for leaning on.
