The Pain of Decision

The time we’ve spent together
Has seen it's highs among the lows
With good times come the bad times
Or so the story goes

I hope that I’ve expressed to you
My joy in times we’ve shared
But the pain that’s coincided
May be more than I can bear

Aware I’ve caused you pain as well
Embarrassed…torn…confused
I do not claim excuses
For your efforts I’ve abused

Decisions truly of the past
Too often flood the present
For no one here is royalty
Nor anyone a peasant

An essential balance broken
The question is repair
Can lines erased then be re-drawn?
Can we not defy despair?

The choice is barely ours, I fear
The future deep at stake
Continue forward hand in hand?
Or allow weary hearts to break
