How do you sum up the essence of a feeling you've felt but never understood?
My friends have left me inside a lie
I'm drowning in despair
The only way out is to pursue a high
While pulling out my hair.

The demons of yesterday have sat down behind
A scene of carnage projected on the screen
Lilacs bloom within the dark that is my mind
Please, someone tell me this is just a dream.

Drugs and comedy fill the void
A melancholy, oozing wound
Filled with remorse and still devoid
Of happiness; I sit and brood.

Wind me up and watch the cardboard hero sing
Little children explain the innocence in everything;
How can I reside within that simple sound of spring?
An answer; stapled, and sold for nothing.

I've been devoured and defiled before my time
Painters taunt me and women would hate me
The potential I had was once in perfect rhyme
With forlorn cats and children, but now they flee.

I recover in the night with ideas that don't exist
other than in my mind, perhaps, but fuck
Those thoughts are just ways to get me pissed
I'd like to gather them up and load them in my truck.

Where has it all gone? Down the drain to hell
Bodies rising with the tide; art has real meaning
There's something that i've lost, but I can't tell
If it was real or just demons up there tinkering.

Wind me up and watch the cardboard hero sing
Little children explain the innocence in everything;
How can I reside within that simple sound of spring?
An answer; stapled, and sold for nothing.
