Inner Strength

I lay alone and close my eyes.
As sleep draws near I realize

This emptiness inside my heart
Is not because we are apart.

Discovery comes swift and vast,
Like memories of a dormant past.

Profound regret was once so near.
Loneliness my deepest fear.

I know that it was in my head.
The looks you gave I just misread.

I didn't want to run to you.
Had no idea what I should do.

But then the answer came to me.
I'm the one to set me free.

The solace that I'd hoped to find
Was locked down deep in my own mind.
