I wrote this for my cousin about our time as children on our farm.
Come, dear cousin, let us recreate
Those golden days of old.
And play together once again
As when we were young and bold.

Only this time I will not run from you
Too fast for you to catch.
And this time I will not lie to you
Like a wicked little wretch.

And this time I will not hide from you
Too hard for you to find.
For this time I will pay attention to you
Every moment of eternal time.

And we will play with your Lincoln Logs
And read your favorite book.
And I will even take the time
To teach you to bait a hook.

But, alas, we cannot recreate
Those golden days of old.
And play together once again
As when we were young and bold.

For now you live thousands of miles away from me
And the ocean has no roads.
And though I think about you constantly
I know the winters there are cold.

So, as I read these beautiful words
You've written on this empty page,
I cannot help but regret every moment that I wasted
When time was yet our slave...
