Better Than This

I remember
My first day
Hands shaking
Slight sweat
Can I do this?

Learning the strokes
Feeling with my hands
The vulnerable essence
Of humanity
Can I do this?

"Touch everyone"
They tell us
I did
As many as possible
And soon I knew
I can do this.

I can lay my hands
On another human
I move their energy
With my intent
Pure, healing, precious
I can do this.

Each body different
Some are vital
Others are not
I can see it
With my hands
Not my eyes
I can do this.

They lay before me
In need of therapy
Trusting, surrendering
I tell them to breathe
So often we forget
To just breathe
I can do this.

I feel the life force
Beneath the skin
We are not
Just bones and flesh
We are energy
Pulsing with life
It does not get
Better than this.
