A short story from my longer version Elysium in the making.

RECORDING TWENTYEIGHT: DEAR CATHRYN, Derus T. William :
"Cathryn I am recording this journal for you, so that you may see the state of the World at this present time. We are now passing through a most critical point for us. It looks as if the Alder nation will soon reach Tellusia. This could mean another fullscale war. Our Tellusian government stands alone and it has sent for outside help. We are waiting to hear what the news is going to be. Let us hope for the best. Love Dad."

A new day, morning has just broken. Most men are tired, some unhappy and lethargic as they move through the nameless valley. The sound of the enemy footsteps, accompanied by the stiffled blasts of gunfire ascented as they marched. Despite Everything, all abhorrence, they mobilize yet again. Again they take heart to face the enemy as countless times before, knowing well that the flames of hell lie ahead. Some may go there but for a few brave soldiers, Elysium awaits.

Derus, despite his veteran skills, experienced fear. His hands shook and he continued to sweat, forcing him to acommodate the situation and regain focus. As the first shots left his barrel, the mental images of his daughter turned blurry.
-"Let us leave them to the afterlife a bit heavier, men. Fill 'em with lead!"
The Commander shouted and in the same moment Derus fell to the ground. The images of his near ones became clearer and clearer, but in a white flash it all turned dark.

AUTOMATED MESSAGE: DECEASED:
"Derus T. William, former sergeant, devoted father and husband, will be remembered for his bravery, courage and loyalty. HAIL, PRAISE and LOVE!"
