boy meets girl boy likes girl everybody goes home, but with a little twist
I stood staring at the map in my hands, wondering how in the world the little doodles on the paper could be an outline of the stupid campus. I was lost. I was alone. I was a junior. High school stinks. Especially when you're new to the high school. My family had moved. Again. My father was always up and deciding that the place we were at, wasn't good enough to be our home. Although, this time he had promised me that this was the place. This was our new home. We were going to stay here. So I was trying to make friends. I really was. But so far, the only friend I'd made was my trusty and well-beloved map. Like I said, High school stinks.
I finally located the map building. As I trudged towards the building, why any campus would create different buildings for each subject is beyond me, I tried to stuff my good friend into my pocket. I'd learned from experience that holding a map in your hands was only setting yourself up for torment and loneliness. No one likes the new girl. I finally got to the building, and into room 103. Where I sat, and tried not to make it obvious that I was totally lost. A boy walked in, swishing his long-ish brown hair to-and-fro, and moving his dark blue eyes around the perimeter of the room. His eyes somehow caught me staring at him. He was quite possibly the most good-looking boy I'd ever seen.
"Hi," he said, smiling. When he smiled, his top lip dissappeared. He had a cute smile.
"Hey," I said, smiling, although I'm sure not as cutely. He took a desk next to mine and looked around the room again, waving to a couple of blonde skinny girls who, as if on cue, started giggling and whispering to each other. I'm sure I heard the words, "Did you see that, he looked at me!!!!" once or twice. I rolled my eyes, and he saw me do it. He laughed, and rolled his eyes too. I smiled back at him. God, he was cute.
I would have said something utterly stupid to him, his cuteness was throwing me off, if the teacher hadn't walked into the room at that moment. She was a squat lady, with graying blonde hair, and bright blue eyes. She began to call roll. I sank low into my seat, praying that no one thought, 'Hey, she's new! Let's pinpoint her for our next make-fun-of-the-new-girl session!' and then told all their friends, when she called my name, and barely managed to mumble out the word, "Here." before she moved on to another student. Then I heard a name I knew.
"Daniel. Daniel Tae," the teacher called.
I knew a Daniel Tae. When I was in seventh grade, I had a friend named Christina. I was incredibly jealous of her, her being skinny, blonde, and knowing WAY more boys than I did. But she was nice, and she somehow gave out this comfortable vibe that made it hard to be nervous and shy around her. One day, she took pity on me, and decided to help me out in the boy factor. So she introduced me to Daniel Tae. And we became friends. He allowed me to call him Danny, and he preferred to call me Kady over Katerina. But then, of course, Daddy decided to move again. Deciding that the town was growing too big, and getting too dangerous for his family. In doing so, he also ruined my zero-to-nil chances of ever becoming more than friends with Danny. But, as I had trained myself to, I soon forgot about Danny, knowing that I would never see him again, and allowed myself to like other guys. But here Danny was. Four years later.
I looked around the room, and finally spotted him. He mumbled out, "Here.", scribbling in a notebook, his dark, almost black, curly hair spilling over into his green eyes, and his mind obviously somewhere else. I knew him. I KNEW him. Which meant I could TALK to him. The thought sent a weird tremor down my spine, and caused my stomach to start twisting up. I admit, I was nervous about talking to him. He was, after all, a GUY. But I made up my mind TO talk to him.
After a full quarter of an hour of torture, called by some, MATH CLASS, I stood in the middle of the crowd of teenage angst and acne holding my tray and searching the pimply masses for Danny. Then the boy from math class bumped my arm. No-lip-smile boy. The cute one.
"Hey, you need a place to sit?" He asked, flinging his hair out of his eyes, and smiling that no-lip-smile again. I looked at him, and was reminded that he was a CUTE BOY. The kind of boy who wouldn't talk to a girl like me unless he'd been paid.
"You run into some extra cash here lately?" I asked, suddenly suspicious.
"What?" he looked genuinely confused.
"Never mind."
"So... Uh... You need a place to sit?" he repeated the question.
"No," I replied, spotting Danny sitting alone at a round table in the corner, "No, I think I've got that covered. But could I take a raincheck?"
"I'm looking forward to it."
I stared at his back as he walked away, feeling that, in some way, I had hurt his feelings. Then about a dozen skinny blonde girls jumped on him, screaming about how they were the perfect girl for him or something. I no longer felt his pain.
"Hi," I said to Danny.
"Uh..." he said as he looked up, he was obviously surprised. Then recognition fleeted across his eyes, "Kady?"
"Yeah. Hey Danny."
"Hey. Whoa. I can't believe you're here. How long you been here?"
"We've been living here about two weeks."
"Why did you wait to come to school?"
"My parents wanted to let me get used to the new home before they sent me here."
"Oh, okay, you missed out on a lot of math homework."
"A fact I'm very proud of."
He smiled.
I sat down, and bit into a french-fry, feeling at ease.
"So, you remember Christina?" He asked me.
"Yeah. We keep in touch still. Kind of. What about you?"
"I remember her, but we don't keep in touch anymore."
"But you used to?"
"For about a week."
"Then what happened?"
"She got a boyfriend."
"So?"
"And she started calling him more than she called me."
"Ah."
"Yeah."
An awkward silence followed. I started to lose my ease. Then, an idea struck me. It struck me as if i'd been hit on the head by an oversized coconut, and it was just heavy enough to knock the idea into my slushing brains.
"I think we should play a game."
"A game?"
"Yes. A game."
"A game."
"Yes! Danny! Get your little mind around it! We're adults now, we're allowed to play games."
"Okay then."
"Now, the game is called Truth."
"Like truth or dare?"
"Kind of, but without the dare. It's like, i ask you a question, and you answer honestly, and then you ask me a question, and i answer honestly."
"Alright."
"Okay, i'll start. Danny Tae, what is your favorite color?"
"You're going easy on me."
"You're a begginner. It's only fair. Now answer the question!!!"
"Okay, okay. My favorite color is white."
"That's not a color."
"It is to me. How else could it be my favorite?"
"Fine. Whatever. Why is it your favorite color?"
"Well, there's something new about it. It's like, the absense of mistakes. A place where you can begin again. Where you can start over. Where everything's okay."
He leaned forwards, cupping his cheek in his large hands, and his green eyes a darker shade than usual, trying to make me understand what he meant.
"Whoa."
He laughed, "Sometimes i can be intense."
"About color."
"About my favorite color."
"Right."
"Okay, my turn. Kady-"
Just then the bell rang. Lunch time was over. It was time to go to- I checked my schedule- PE.
"Aw, man."
"Why don't we finish this later. You got a number?"
"Look at you! So smooth at getting a girl's number. I'm surprised the cheerleaders got away from you."
He smiled, "Yeah, yeah, just write it down."
I laughed, "Okay, okay."
I gave him my number, and went to PE. The rest of the day was just... Sleeping. Sleeping through history. Sleeping through English. Sleeping through Science... And that was it.
When i got home, i sat by the phone. Chewing on my fingernails, and waiting for him to call.
Apparently, Danny wasn't the calling sort. At six o' clock, i decided to call Kiren. Kiren was my older sister. She had gotten married to a guy named Ryan, and, unfortunately, we had moved soon afterwards. But we moved three times after that, and now, we were only ten minutes away from where she, Ryan, and there little girl, Lydia lived.
"Bye-bye?"
"Hey, Lydy, where's your Mommy?"
"She here."
"Can you put her on the phone?"
"Magic word."
"Please?"
"Okay. MOMMY! AUNT KAY-KAY'S ON THE PHONE!!!!"
"Thank you, Lydy."
"Here Mommy."
"Kady?"
"Hey Kiren."
"'Sup?"
"I met someone."
"Oh, that's nice."
"No, i mean i met SOMEONE."
"Oh, that's even better."
"Yeah, i know."
"So, what's his name?"
"Do you remember when i was in the seventh grade?"
"Yeah."
"Who were my only two friends?"
"Ris-Ris and Dan-Dan."
"Yeah. Although, before this conversation goes any further, what's up with you taking the first three letters out of everyone's name, and repeating them twice?"
"It's cute. Don't judge me."
"Too late."

I WOULD HAVE SAID MORE, BUT THEN SCARY SCALEY FISH MONSTERS ATTACKED IN THEIR SPACE-SHIPS FROM THE SKY, AND THEY ABDUCTED ME AND DID EXPERIMENTS ON MY BRAIN! AND WHEN I RETURNED HERE TO EARTH AND TOLD MY STORY EVERYONE THOUGHT I WAS CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!

The End.
