A simple poem with a central simile
Like a scrubbed floor
I was clean
And polished
They scrubbed me
Waxed , swiffered,
And swept me.
I gleamed
I reflected
The overhead light
I squeaked
With cleanliness
I shined
With pride
But
With abandon
And malice
You
Ruined my life
You stepped upon me
With no regard for my state
Your shoes were
Caked
With mud and grass
You’ve muddied
Dirtied
And sullied
Me now.
I’m not wanted
I’m shunned
I’m not a part
Of the crowd.
I can’t hold
My head high
Or
Smile and laugh
It’s fixable
It won’t last
But they’ll remember
Forever
And I’ll remember
With tired eyes
And with shame
I won’t trust
You again
I won’t trust
Them
Anymore
I’ll check everyone’s shoes
With compulsive
Mistrust
Because you
With your steel-toed
Boots
Stepped onto this floor
This gleaming
Scrubbed floor
And ruined it.
