This is one of the very first poems I wrote, which was about six or seven years ago.
Heads Held High

My heart has been broken plenty of times
But I suck it all up and hold my head high,
In hopes that a brighter day may come,
Maybe a day when I will find my true love.

Though I try to hide all pain and anger inside,
I hold up my head and try to confide-
In family and friends who truly love me,
How long will it take everyone else to see?

True beauty lies not on the outside but on the in,
Is it possible to trust ever again?
I've been used and thrown away as an unwanted toy.
When will I ever find happiness and joy?

I have become so hard within,
It seems impossible to love again.
Time after time I have raised my hopes high,
Telling myself "He is such a great guy!"

Now I see that I am only a fool,
To ignore the fact that most guys are cruel.
Guys do not care about her and what she may need,
They only care about their own selfish greed.

Brick after brick I built a wall inside of me,
In hopes that maybe, somebody, someday will see,
All I want is to love and be loved in return-
From love there is so much to be learned.

I feel as if the pain and anger will never go away-
As if maybe, in my eyes, skies will always be gray.
For my heart has been broken so many times,
But I suck it all up and hold my head high.
