The title describes it well. This was my very first poem.
I read a book and saw a word,
a word that I had never heard.
"Hamewith" - "A home within",
the place where shame had always been.

My Lord, my Jesus, my Savior, my life!
Why must my heart be filled with strife?
I seek Your face, I read Your Word,
But cannot seem to be assured.

A place inside is filled with fire.
My prayer, oh Lord, please take it higher!
Burn away all fear and doubt
that the real me would hence break out.

This shell that holds me closed inside
is not a prison, as Satan has lied.
For within those walls do You abide,
and with my Lord do I reside.

Your breath will feed those flames of life,
Your words cut the darkness like a knife.
So in this place I will draw near,
for Your perfect love casts out all fear.

The victory I'm looking for
is inside my heart's locked door.
And it is He who holds the key
that knows my each and every need.

As I let go of that locked door
and with both hands am reaching for
the God of love, of life, of peace,
will then I find my hearts release

Hand in hand we'll take that step,
along with me has my Savior wept.
You've seen it all, You understand,
and oh the things You must have planned!

And so this "Hamewith", what a word...
a place where abundant life is birthed.
From there I'll never be the same,
Nor ever bow my head in shame.

I'll run and dance in Your light of love
that which envelopes me like a glove,
shewing forth Your awesome might
that carried me thru the darkest night.

And when I see another soul
bound in Hell's counterfeit mould,
of Your love for them I'll share
and tell them that I have been there.

How if they look the other way
from the locked door to Your smiling face;
that shining light so bright within,
they'll find the healing, and "life begins".
