This is a continually-growing poem inspired by an email. Email me with verse suggestions.
I smile because it’s easier than explaining why I’m crying;
I cry because it’s easier to do than smiling.

I begin because I think of what I’ll accomplish at the end;
I finish because I think of my hopes at the beginning.

I write to pretend I have a better life;
I have a better life because I write.

I love because without it my spirit will be crushed;
My spirit is not crushed, for I know enough to love.

I am beautiful because I am confident;
I am confident because I know I am beautiful within.

I learn because I want to BE someone;
I will be someone because I learned to want to.

I am a poet because I cannot change what I am;
I do not change what I am because I love being a poet.

I live because it’s easier than dying,
And I will die knowing I will only truly live in heaven, with my Savior.
