Puree dribbling from chapped lips onto lap
Mumbled phrases are now her lexicon
Vacant smiles that peek through the frustration
Faces become broken puzzle pieces
Each a challenge she must glue together
She absorbs their disappointment with grace
Knowing their good intentions are a waste
