Baby Girl

My hearts alight,
My soul flying high.
My Emotions in a tumble.
New day and new expectations.
First light, soft and gray
slips silently through the window
and caresses your face.
my gaze filled with wonder,
for my precious baby girl.
A dribble of milk spilling from
the corner of your perfect mouth,
contentment written on your face.
With one hesitant finger
I trace dawn’s kisses
along your cherub cheek,
I pause at the roundness of your jaw
while you quiver through a yawn.
Your eyes, lidded with delicate lids,
slowly open to reveal eyes so pure,
innocent as they peer at me,
blue gray orbs so solemn and serene,
before they close again, and you doze;
I am struck by the wonder of your trust.
At this moment, the birth of your first day
since emerging from the cocoon
of my body, past meets future
in this bonding of you and me,
and in this place
love blooms for eternity.
A joy I have never known before,
blesses me with its embrace.
My hearts all a flutter,
love for you flows through me.
My mind can not grasp,
the wonder that has come.
Words are not enough,
to say the bliss I feel.
Such as none but a new mom can feel.
The birth of a new day,
a new life starts today.
