A few of my favorite books...
I always find it helpful when someone gives me some new idea's when looking for something new to read. Like many of you...I am one of those people that get into a rut when reading the same books sometimes I just want to try something new.
So this is for those of you that would not normally read horror, but wonder about it sometimes...thinking "I wonder where to start."
Here is MY list of the BEST horror books around.
Have FUN!!! (Note: ALthough I may give some details about these books...I will not spoil the endings for you).

1. Jonathan Aycliffe- is my absolute favorite horror writer. No changing my mind on this one. He is alittle hard to find, since all but 1 of his books are out of print...but I go on EBAY to find 'em..and now I have them all. He is a British writer, and Jonathan is only one of the pseudonyms he uses. He also uses Daniel Easterman (Thriller/Espionage books), and is much better known in that genre, under THAT name. His real name, however, is Denis McEoin.
So, as I was saying...all of Jonathan's books are amazing and eerie, but what gets me about him is this....he is a writer that KNOWS his stuff. He majored in Latin, Arabic etc. in college and knows about everything he can know about that culture and their beliefs. The best thing is, I do not think I have ever found such a writer that has his brain power, in the horror genre. It makes up for all the pointless and lame horror writers out there adding NO value to their story's....(sorry to those I offend).....
Ok Ok....so, here are some of Jonathan's BEST!!!!!!!!!!
Naomi's Room,#1!!!!!!!!! This one is the best!
A Garden Lost in Time
Matrix
The Talisman
Whispers in the Dark

2. Tanith Lee- I am sure most of you know who she is. Also British, she write's, not only Sci-Fi, she also writes Horror. Her Horror novels are what I am focusing on right here.
The best of her books, in my opinion, are her Blood Opera Series. Which include, Dark Dance, Personal Darkness and Darkness I.
They are about a woman named Rachella and her family, however odd they may be. These books are not only haunting, but soooooo poetic and perfect!! I highly recommend these books. They are wonderful.

3. Patrick McGrath- Asylum
This is a wonderful novel. Although not so horror to some, I would call this a wonderful portrayal of GOTHIC HORROR. About a woman that falls in love with a inmate from a psychatric ward. Now made into a movie too!!

4. Michael Laimo- I actually know him. He is a friend of mine that I met online! I didn't read any of his works until after we were friends, and I must say...he is amazing!!!!! My two favs of his are Deep in the Darkness and The Demonologist.

5. Anne Rice- I know, I know...very typical...but she has good work out there. I have to be honest and say that I am not a big fan of her vampire works..but I adore her book, The Witching Hour. Very beautiful...a definate read!

6. Joyce Carol Oates- Ok..this woman is the saint of all authors. She is sooooo talented and I admire her to no end. She writes in most genre's, but has a few that I would call Gothic. Some being, Zombie, Black Water, Haunted....
Read them, you'll never feel the same about Gothic Novels.

7. Tamara Thorne- There are some I like of her, and some I don't. Although, I thought her book Moonfall was GREAT!!! Had all of the elements that make horror the BEST!!!

8. Wait 'till Helen Comes( Mary Downing Hahn)- Ok, this is a kid's book, but sooo good. I remember it to this day and I had to add it to this list. This is GREAT!!!!

9. Henry James- He wrote The Turn of the Screw...and no-one ever forgot it. If you haven't read this...shame on YOU!!!

10. Oscar Wilde- The Picture of Dorian Grey. WOAH..this is creepy..even for it's time. I loved this and it changed my whole life. Gothic became my all time fav genre.

11. Ramsey Campbell- The Darkest Part of the Woods. He is crazy, that man...haven't read alot of his books, but I will. He is eerie....

12. And finally...Elizabeth Kostova- The Historian...it's semi-new....and wonderful. Alittle long, but SO worth it.

That concludes some of my favs....if you have any new idea's for me...please email me..It will be greatly appreciated!!
Happy Reading!
