A Woman gets the shock of her life when she meets her new best friends dad |
'Is it just me or has it suddenly just got hot in here?' Sam asked shakily, her eyes fixed on him, yet she was physically and mentally unable to tell Macey what was happening. And how could she tell her? She guessed 'Macey your dad and I were once married' wouldn't exactly go down too well with her new best friend. She could hardly believe it herself so how was Macey supposed to? She had to get out of there before he saw her. 'That will be the central heating. Dad's always got it on too high but he never listens to me when I tell him. There he is now. Dad! Over here!' Typical, bloody typical she thought to herself. Why couldn't she have just made her excuses that she was too hot and sneaked off for some fresh air? That way she could have cleared her head and saved everyone from what was about to happen. He turned around as if in slow motion and she couldn't help but notice the way his crisp, navy-tailored suit clung to his chest. He still had a body to die for she couldn't deny that. He looked at Macey, his face full of compassion and love for his daughter. 'Macey Baby!' he shouted as he made his way towards them, arms open ready for their father-daughter embrace. Then he saw her and slowly recognition kicked in. His face went pale as Macey introduced her best friend. 'Dad this is Sam. She's the newest and possibly the best recruit of 'Team One', definately the best employee I've ever had." Then she turned to Sam unaware of the terrified expression on her face, winked at her and said "Sam this is my gorgeous dad otherwise known as Ray.' There was the slightest pause before Ray managed to pull himself together and speak. "Hi Sam, it's really nice to meet you." He said, holding out his hand for her to shake. That's it? Sam thought as she still tried to pull herself together. He didn't exactly sound shocked to see her. He didn't even look bothered now the shock had obviously worn off. Then again what did she expect? After all, she knew exactly how cold hearted and devious he could be, she was married to him for two and a half years for god's sake! All at once she felt sick. Her temperature had been rising ever since she saw him and she could feel a panic attack coming on. She wasn't like him, she couldn't act as though nothing was wrong. She couldn't stand there and blatently lie to her best friend. She had to say something. "Macey I really need to - " Then there was a loud thud as Sam fell to the floor. Shock had finally took it's toll and she had passed out and smacked her head on the hard laminate. 'Oh my God. Sam! Somebody call an ambulance!' Macey shouted frantically as she bent down to her friends side trying desperately to wake her up. The party had stopped and everyone was gathering around as Sam lay sparked out on the floor. There was no blood anywhere which at least was a relief but Macey wasn't taking any chances. 'For God's sake dad ring an ambulance please!" Ray soon snapped out of his own shock long enough to ring the ambulance and give them Sams details including her date of birth and her full name. Although it struck Macey as strange that her dad had known Sams full name and date of birth, now wasn't the time to question anything. Sam was the priority right now and finding out how her best friend and her dad knew each other could wait. 'Oh my God I'm dead!' Sam blurted out as her eyes slowly gained focus. The bright white light was almost blinding her and all she could see was blurry, faraway shapes. Macey laughed at her friends obvious confusion but was quick to reassure her. "Don't be daft you dill you're just in hospital, and believe me if you'd have seen what I just saw coming out of the person next to you, you definately wouldn't have thought this was heaven!" At the sound of Macey's voice Sam could hardly contain her relief but then came a really sharp pain in the back of her head. "Oww! What happened to me?" She grumbled as she tried to touch her head but found that it hurt ten times more by doing so. 'You passed out in the middle of dads party just as I was introducing you to him. You smacked your head hard on the floor and gave us all a really big fright. Mind you, I've got to give you credit for making a lasting first impression." Macey joked. It was then that Sam remembered what had happened. The shock of seeing Ray again after four years was the biggest shock of her life. It had taken her so long to get over him and now he was back in her life. People always say that if you do something bad you will get punished for it but she had convinced herself that she was the victim and even though Ray had a partner and a daughter, she wasn't doing anything wrong by being with him. It was her that he loved and it was only a matter of time before he left his family anyway. Of course she had times when she felt guilty and she had tried to end it between the two of them but Ray only further convinced her it was her that he wanted by proposing to her. She genuinely thought he was serious about her and so they went ahead and got married. It was the happiest day of her life. She was only twenty two but as she stood on the white sandy beach in beautiful Negril, she thought she'd found her partner for life. How naive she really was! "Sam?" Macey said softly as she noticed tears trickling down Sam's face. "Just ignore me Mace, it's just the shock that's all." Sam lied knowing now wasn't the time to tell her what was really going on. However Macey wasn't convinced. "Do you know my dad?" Macey asked outright. She never had been good with beating around the bush. She was known for speaking her mind and getting straight to the point and that's exactly what she intended to do now. Sam was stunned. She could have sworn Macey hadn't noticed the tension between Ray and herself at the party but obviously she was wrong. Thinking quickly she said the first thing that came into her mind. 'No I don't think so. He looks slightly familiar but that's all." 'So you could have met him then?" Macey persisted. 'Well yes it's possible but I wouldn't know where from." Sam added getting a little flustered now. She could see it all coming out and she didn't see any way of stopping it. She felt unable to lie any longer but she couldn't tell her. Now now and definitely not like this. Just then a light knock came on the door as it opened to reveal Ray standing there looking slightly concerned. "Is it alright to come on in only the nurse just told me you had woken up and I thought it only fair that I come and make a proper introduction." He said trying to sound as casual as possible. Macey knew that she wasn't going to get any further with Sam now so she decided to go and get herself a drink. "I'll be back soon, do you want anything Sam?" No thanks Mace, I'm fine for now." "What about you dad?" She looked at him wondering exactly how he had known those details and she felt confused at the fact that neither of them would admit to knowing each other. "No thanks love I've just had one" Ray replied as he kissed her on the forehead and opened the door for her. "OK then I'll be back soon" and off she went still confused and needing answers. "Well that was a shock!" Ray said as he moved over to the bed. "What on earth are you doing here, don't you realise what this could do to Macey?" He said in amazement. "Oh I came especially to make best friends with your daughter so that I could get closer to you and get you back!" Sam said sarcastically. She couldn't believe the nerve of him asking her why she was here as if it was all for his benefit. He broke her heart when he ran off, leaving her nothing but a note saying he was leaving to be with his family and yet he had the nerve to stand there and think she'd want anything to do with him. 'Still the same old Sam then" he spat. "Always the martyr. Always the one who's hard done by. Is it any wonder I left you, all you ever did was moan!" Rays voice echoed around the room and Sam couldn't believe the venom in his voice. "How dare you talk to me like that! You're the one who ran off, you're the one who asked me to marry you and who claimed you loved me more than you've ever loved anybody else. You're the one who had a family not me, so don't you dare blame me for your own guilt because of Macey!" Sam screamed. Meanwhile Macey was just down the corridor at the vending machine getting herself a drink when she heard the raised voices coming from Sam's room. She rushed to the door, put her ear next to it and quietly listened as the voices became crystal clear. " Macey doesn't need this Sam! She's only just forgiven me for her mum leaving after my affair came out. If this comes out she'll never speak to me again and what do you think it will do to her? Do you honestly think she'll speak to you either?" Ray was panicking now as he paced up and down the room shouting and trying to make Sam see sense. "For your information Ray I certainly have no plans to tell Macey anything. Do you think I want to be reminded of what a lowlife you actually are. I can't believe I ever married you. I was young and naive but now I see you for what you really are. A lying, cheating scumbag who cares only about himself. You don't care about what this would do to Macey, you care about what this would do to you! At least I actually care about Macey. She's my best friend and I sure as hell aren't going to lose her because of you!" Macey barged into the room unable to hear anymore. "Macey!" Sams whole world crumbled as she saw the look on Maceys face. Tears streamed down her face as she realised her friend had heard everything. "You bitch!" Macey spat. "You're the one that split my family up? You're the one who made mum almost kill herself after she found out? What are you sick or something? You thought you'd come here, make friends with me just to get back at dad? How could you?" Macey launched herself at Sam hitting her and pulling at her clothes. Sam couldn't fight back as she was far too stunned, all she could do was cry and shout that she didn't mean any of this to happen. "Please Macey you have to believe me!" With that Macey laughed a weird, evil laugh. "Believe you? After all you've done? I hate you, you lying little tart! I could kill you!" Again she launched at her and punched her as Ray looked on unable to move. He was stunned at Maceys behaviour. He'd never seen her like this before and he was worried that she might actually kill Sam the way she was going at her. "Macey! Stop it please just stop it!" He managed to shout but it was too late. By the time Macey had finished punching and screaming at Sam she was motionless on the bed. Maceys anger had taken over and she had lost complete control as she laid into her. Now as she slowly realised what she had done she fleed crying and shocked. Ray just stood there looking at Sam. Her head was bloodied and bruised, she was barely recogniseable. He knew he should call somebody but he knew he'd get the blame. So he did what he thought best, he ran. He ran as far as he could away from the hospital thinking of nothing but catching up with Macey, he couldn't help Sam now, but Macey was nowhere to be seen. Then he saw her heading into the wood on the opposite side of the road. He ran straight out without looking and was instantly hit by an oncoming car. His body was chucked into the air, then he slammed back down onto the road which killed him instantly. Unaware of what had just happened, Macey carried on running, crying and feeling betrayed. She stopped when she felt she could run no more and she let her grief take over. Grief for her mum and grief that she'd just lost her best friend. Even though she hated Sam right now she hated her dad even more. She didn't know the ins and outs of it all but she knew her dad was the main person who had let her down. She definitely couldn't face him now. She needed to get away. She couldn't possibly stay now anyway what if she'd killed Sam? She wasn't moving when she left her, she was sure she'd be OK but would she? She couldn't take the risk and go back to find out so she went home, gathered her passport and set off to the airport. Maybe she'd ring the hospital anonymously when she got to where she was going. As for her dad well, he could rot in hell! |
