This poem could be lyrics as well, it all depends on how you read it.
The ball has dropped and I almost forgot my name
Nothing compares to this Hollywood fame
Shouting over the voices of this messed up generation
These are the moments when we create confusion
Kiss the one you love
Kiss the one you hate
Is it really true about what they say?

Back at the beginning when last year was new
I never had the feeling of leaving too soon
We stayed out late drinking underneath the stars
Nothing else mattered as we drove our beater cars
Now I’m camped out in this living room
Where the space seems cramped and
The walls are starved for anything interesting
Is there anything interesting left to say?

Well I’m convinced that we’ve all grown tired
Of this nonsense, tired of politics and the weather
When will we realize that nothing gets better
Things only improve or just simply suck
And I’m convinced that it’s all overrated
So let’s turn twenty-one and get fucked up
It’s a shame we can go fight for our country
And not enjoy a drink or two before we die

The ball has dropped and I feel the same
Almost-empty bottles clink in celebration
And I’m almost in hibernation as I’m thinking
And it’s making me insane just
Thinking of you and this midnight hour
Is it really true about what they say?
You know what they all say…
