A Girls Love For Her Parents
Leslie she lived with her parents. Her mother, Stephanie, was a lady of sixty and her father, Gary, very well into his seventies. She had moved back home with them several years ago. Her mother had turned ill and her father could not care for her in his condition. He had suffered a stroke about a year earlier. He had been at home mowing the yard and all of a sudden he was on the ground and the neighbor had called the ambulance. Her mother had been taking a nap at the time, she suffers from kidney disease and had gotten home very tired from dialysis. Since the two had their own home they didn't want to be in a nursing home. The offer was made to Leslie if she could return home and take care of her parents.

Leslie of course loving her parents as she did still had a difficult decision to make. Taking the offer of taking care of her parents at their home or staying at her apartment and going over everyday before and after work. Leslie also had to think about her own lifestyle that she had grown accustomed to, now that she had been on her own for several years after her difficult relationship of fourteen years had ended.

Not to mention the fact that her parents were really in no condition to stay alone. Only they were too stubborn, as Leslie had put into words so many times before. According to Leslie, her parents should have already been in a nursing home long before her father had the stroke, and probably would have been better off there since her mother discovered that she had kidney disease.

All this had come at a moment when Leslie was finally getting her life to feel normal. Now she has to choose between her well deserved and well earned liberty and her parents. She tried to weigh all the good and all the bad consequences of the choices she was about to make. She even went so far as to write down the good and the bad things that would come of the decision she would make.

While Leslie was trying to decide her fate, her parents were not getting much help from anyone else. They had tried to get someone to go to their house and help with the housework. It was getting difficult for her mom to attend to her father when she would come home from dialysis. Every time she got home she was so tired and felt so weak that the only thing she could do is lay in bed until she felt better and that would be till the next morning. Gary, could barely walk to the bathroom, with the help of a walker.

It was a very chilly morning and Leslie had gone to work. Halfway through the day she received a call from the emergency room. "Miss Leslie Stewart? Is this Miss. Leslie Stewart?" came the worried voice on the phone. "Yes, this is she, how may I help you?" Leslie answered. "I am calling from Central Hospital Emergency Room. We have your parents here. If you could please come and we could settle this situation as soon as possible." the voice in the phone went silent. She would have to go to the hospital to find out what was going on.

As Leslie got to the hospital she couldn't help but wonder if when she got back to work she would get in trouble. This was becoming a habit it the eyes of her boss. She had left early several times before and he had not minded much. Only now it was much more frequent.. Just last week her mother had called and asked if she could go and pick her up from dialysis. She had gotten out very weak and she could no longer wait for public transportation because it was taking too long.

As she got to the emergency room and was asking for information on her parents she was met by a group of people that looked like they had a very serious problem they needed to solve. "This is Mr. Collins, he is board of directors from the department of adult protective services.," said the young lady at the head of the group. "He is here to speak with you concerning your parents.".

"I am Leslie Stewart, I got a call, that my parents were in the emergency room, but no one will tell me what is wrong with them." " I really need to get back to work as soon as possible or I will loose my job"

"Mrs. Stewart, I would really appreciate some of your time, can we please talk in here for a moment?" he was walking and ushering her into an empty office.

What seems to be the problem, is everything alright with my mother, did she miss her dialysis today or did she get sick, I know that when she goes to have her treatment she can get awfully ill?" Then she realized that it could be her father. Is it my father, did he fall on the way to the bathroom or did he have another stroke? could some one please tell me what is going on? Where are my parents i want to see them ." She couldn't focus anymore and she blurted out the only words that she thought she would never say "did my mom die or was it my dad. Please someone tell me something!"

One of the doctors then came into the office and told the case manager from adult protective services that every thing was now under control but they were not to be left alone for long periods of time. It would be his recommendation that they be admitted into a facility where they could be watched on through out the day, in no way should they be left alone. The case worker said thanks and returned to the conversation that he was about to start with Leslie.
