Chapter One
How It Began

My heart was pounding out of control and I couldn’t breathe.
The more I tried to catch my breath the worse I became until I
was breathing so hard and so fast…
With one of my children in my arms and leading the other by
his hand, everything began to go black before my eyes. I felt
myself going down and all I could think about was that I was
going to die; and then, there was only darkness. That was the
most horrifying day of my life, and it was only the beginning of
an ongoing living hell. This was my very first panic attack. For
no reason, out of the blue, it just took over my body and I had no
idea what was going on. My now ex-husband was in the military
stationed in San Antonio, Texas. He was a medical specialist and
worked at Ft. Sam Houston Medical Center. One afternoon
while my husband was working, I had taken our sons to the
commissary shopping center on post. All of a sudden, I started
feeling very strange. I had never felt anything like it ever before.
