electrical field

the horse ran right through the electric fence
as if by tearing through, he could avoid the shock
but his body became a pathway for the current,
with fluids carrying charges of their own, like accusations
pushing the pain along . . .
his body made the circuit complete.
I could almost see the actions, the laws in action,
in his spirited, animal reaction of flight
and it reminded me of physics class when we all held hands
and our teacher shocked her neighbor
who passed it on to the end of the line . . .
passing the pain along.
