Writing.Com is the premier online community for writers of all ages and interests. Our mission is to provide an extremely creative environment for writers, offering them hundreds of unique tools and opportunities for inspiration and creation.
These words are the opening for "Writing.Com 101" . A major tenet of WDC is the ability of one member to help another with his or her writing. One thing is sure--members love to help other members. This issue is all about help.
I've identified just a few of the many items, groups or forums designed to help our members grow in their writing skills. For every one here, there are certainly ten more somewhere in the WDC wings waiting to be discovered.
Contains How To articles for creating such things as a Static Item, a B-item link, a Folder, and a reviewing template. It also contains instructions for beginners submitting reviews.
Various articles from selected members about reviewing, writing, and other WDC activities.
The Newbie Welcome Wagon is a forum designed to encourage and support those who review newbies. You don't have to join this group to perform reviews. But you can affiliate your reviews with this group AND earn gift points and prizes while doing it.
A fabulous source for Links, Lessons, Resources and other things related to WDC. This is a must-see for all Newbies.

Are you into reviewing? Visit River's Reviewing Forum. It contains reviewing resources, a one-on-one reviewing workshop, a reviewing contest, and a forum for discussions on reviewing. Become a member of the forum and get involved in one of the major aspects of WDC.

And a contest solely for Newbies. It is open to entries from all members that have been registered with WDC for 6 months or less.
Oh yeah, before I go--let's not forget I'd like to suggest another source for help. Many of our more established members have written essays and articles about getting the most out of the features and resources of WDC, starting with The StoryMaster , and ~ Santa Sisco ~ and northernwrites to name a couple. Check out each Portfolio you visit with eyes for that special How To essay.
Share it when you find it. In the meantime, write on.

Check out these Newbies (I've selected folks who have filled out their Biography or something in their Bio-Block). Take a moment to review something in their Port ... or just say hi.

Thanks for spending time with me today. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.
And now, from the mailbag:
From hbk16: Writing emanates from diverse kinds of ambition. The goals are different from one author to another. Nevertheless all authors should offer the best writing piece which is interesting to read and possesses an great meaning. That is why even though writing is a pleasure, it is a great responsibility. It is a great issue which needs further debates.
Thoughts, anyone?
From jimsatire: Damnit....Poetry again...LOL oh well one day my story will make one of these lists.
I can't speak for the other NN editors, but I select stories and poems for here from newbies who have filled out their Bio-Block and Biography tabs.
From write719: A writer's life is not an easy one. If you love to write, you have to be somehow crazy doing it! Thousands of people never make enough to live on. In this world, the arts don't fit into the standard to work for a living. Everyone must eat, so they must work for a living. This marks the artist as someone weird. Vincent Van Gogh loved to paint, yet he only sold a single painting during his life. Now that he's dead, his work fetches millions at auction.
Society doesn't appreciate the works of artists. The artist enjoys the process, whether painting or writing. Writers, like myself, enjoy communicating through the printed word. That's what makes us special, even if the world at large won't recognize the fact.
I'm not sure about being crazy to write. But I certainly enjoy writing.
From Whata SpoonStealer : People learn in different ways, like me, so I find it a bit difficult to learn from the 101. So I made up "WhataLand" However, there is a nice INSERT list in there with 101 links to some important information. Then there's some video links. And there's lesson links things that sybarrios and I made up when with the Newbies Academy Group; these are self taught on how to do stuff around here. There's tons of ways to learn, and one-on-one is helpful for many peeps too. We're all so different! And brain damaged. I always end up asking in the tech forum and I hope I can understand it.
Advertise us in your Newsletters if you like Whata you see. Always happy to help peeps.
Expand! I find HOW people learn to be interesting.
Thanks for the information. In fact, your statements are the reason for this newsletter issue.
