About This Newsletter

The contests and activities on this site are constantly changing! Almost every day there is something new and exciting to view and participate in. The ideas are endless. Some succeed, some manage to get along, while others, unfortunately, are left behind and forgotten. My goal as your Contest & Activity newsletter editor is to provide each of you with the tools it takes to create a great success.

Deadlines

Last night, I made several comments to friends that I had to have a newsletter in by noon today. I forgot to sit down and do it and went to bed early (I had classes first thing in the morning, it was reasonable). I went to classes, came home, and found a gentle reminder that my newsletter was now 5 hours late. *Shock* Which inspired this week's topic: deadlines.

As a contest/activity host, it is your responsibility to set reasonable deadlines and enforce them. It is up to you to make the deadlines clear. The deadline often reflects the type of contest and could affect the number of participants. For example, very few, if any, members would jump at the chance to try their hand at a novel contest that has a deadline for only a month later (NaNoWriMo excluded, naturally). But, a short story contest would recieve a fair amount of entries for the same deadline.

As for activities, having too far off of a deadline for a raffle or an auction could result in limited entries. Members don't like to wait for results. Likewise, having the deadline too soon would not give you enough time to advertise and get participants.

Participants, be sure to take note of any deadlines the host as put down. If you're not sure, contact them so they can clarify it for you. Once a deadline passes, that's it. Don't try to sneak an entry in an hour past the deadline.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to sneak this entry into the Storymaster's inbox. *Laugh*
