Letter from the editor

I read on the Internet news this past week that more than 200 million Americans will experience "weather misery" from a coast to coast winter storm. Ol' Man Winter has been particularly intense this season resulting in numerous lost work and school days. I suspect this is true in other countries where winter has reared its head.

In truth I don't like missing work because to truly enjoy what I do. (I make things out of wood.) But I'm also nosy. And I seldom get time to check out this or that aspect of WDC. Yes, even after ten years of membership I love to look in the various nooks and crannies. Hmmm, Snow Day. I think I'll snoop a little.

Your Navigation menu (located on the left side of your page) contains several sections starting with the WDC header, a Search box, and your personal Portfolio. The next section has nine menu options relating to your personal membership, The following two sections combine personal and WDC options through clickable menus. Rounding out the left Navigation Menu is the current official WDC date/time and online presence, as well as Sponsored Links.

I'll focus on a couple areas for this issue.

Did you know that clicking on the WDC Header takes you to a page fraught with links and information designed to enhance your visit? This is The Hub--a community central, if you will. This is your place to find up-to-date information about the current official WDC monthly contest; the latest Writing Prompt; updated Static items and Books; recent Contest listings, Newsletters, and Activity listings; and newly awarded Items and Portfolios.

The Search box allows you to search for items or information within your Portfolio or across WDC. You can enter a six- or seven-digit number alone or a keyword. Be sure to select the appropriate search parameter and press Enter.

I'll address more about the Navigation Menu in subsequent newsletters. Until then, snoop on.

Ask & Answer

Thanks for spending time with me today. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.

*Sad* Not one Newbie identified the defunct 14th newsletter. The short-lived Science Fiction newsletter existed for about six months back in 2001. Anyone can look back at older newsletters, including the Sci-Fi NL. Just check out Newsletters under the Community Tab in the Nav Menu, and click on the appropriate links.

And now, from the mailbag:

From Monochrome Author Icon: Thank you so much for including my piece in editor's pick! I'm very touched that my work was one of those that were picked! It's a big confidence boost for a newbie writer like me! That is my first ever piece! Thank you so much. I hope you guys would have time reading my other works and leave a review. It means so much to me! ;)

         My pleasure.

From Tinker Author Icon: Technically I've been a member since 2009. I have been an active member for about a year and a half. This is one of my favorite Newsletters, I learn something new from it almost every week. Thank you from a not so Newbie who is always open to learning.

I still learn from reading my fellow Noticing Newbie NL editors, as well as from researching my issues.

From hbk16: Newsletter is an important focus about the writing process. It allows to the writer to put self critics and to evolve.
Great!

I love reading our newsletters as well. Sometimes one little fact makes a big difference in one's writing.
