Letter from the editor

How hard can it be to throw together an activity or contest for others to enjoy? Depends on what you're creating, of course. How elaborate is your new project? What are the requirements and how often are you going to run it or is it a continuous item?

While most of us see the finished product, participate in it here and there, we don't see what goes on behind the scenes until we create our own project. We tend to try outdo each other sometimes and tend to build bigger and better, not realizing that it also requires a lot of time and effort to keep things on track. Even though a monthly contest may not require a lot of attention until a certain point in time, activities do.

You can't just expect things to run themselves. Working out the details in the beginning doesn't mean you've thought of everything right away. Glitches happen all the time. Tending to the items you're running is a must, just like a flower that needs water in order to bloom and blossom, so does our creativity that others enjoy.

As a writer you feel that the contests and activities you partake in may be stagnant, the prompts aren't challenging enough. Sometimes even you feel like you do all the work - the writing, of course - and if you don't win, you feel that it was all for nothing. You might want to look at it from a different perspective before judging the book by its cover. It takes two to tango, doesn't it?

'Til next time!
