You Gotta Write
Stories don't write themselves, you gotta write 'em.
What's that mean?
It means you have got to love to write . . . to write.
God knows how many times I have put off writing for something else. We all do it: we're too tired, or there's too many distractions. The thing is, if you don't write, you should be reading, and if you're not reading, you should be writing.
So how do you do that?
Well, I thought long and hard about this, and finally came up with the answer.
You have got to love what you're doing. You've got to put your entire being -- your soul -- into your work. When you are fully committed, then you'll write. You'll write like there's no mañana.
I used to be a very prolific writer. I don't know if you've ever been to my port, but if you look at the body of my work, it was all done within a two to three year period. I wrote voraciously, and I loved every minute of it. What changed?
Nothing.
I simply fell out of love with writing. It's not because I've run out of ideas, or can't think of what to write. I have more ideas than I know what to do with. But now I just dabble at it, writing a few lines here and there, never throwing myself into my work. If that is your approach, you might as well just hang it up because I can tell you it's not working for me.
The positive I've taken away from this self-analysis is that you should never do anything unless you intend to do it to the best of your ability.
With that thought I leave you to ponder: do you love to write?
Until next time,

DEAD LETTERS
Kotaro
Great beginning with an interesting character. Can't wait to read the rest.
Quick-Quill
This story almost caught my attention. I don't pick up a random book and read the first page hoping it will hook me. I look at the cover, the back of the book(or inside) to see what the story will be about. If that doesn't hook me I don't even bother with the first page. If I feel the story fits what I'm in the mood for, I buy it. I don't throw a book out unless by the end of the first chapter, there's been no goal, motivation or conflict to hook me. I opened a self-published book and by the time I read four paragraphs the WAS, WENT and WERE had me cringing so bad I almost threw it out of the train. I did force myself to finish the book. I can't unread it. The second worst example of self-publishing I've ever read.

Thank you for featuring my story in your newsletter. I really enjoyed reading your excerpts from 'The Dust' and look forward to more. Rusty's ability is very intriguing!
