Letter from the editor

“The applause was so loud and insistent that I had to respond with several encores. I was numb with happiness, when it was over, I knew that this alone must be my life and my world.”
― Leni Riefenstahl

Everyone likes merit badges. They don't just boost your community recognition (the number next to your name) but also do something more important - they make you feel good. It's a sense of accomplishment when you see one of those show up in your inbox. Right? So, as you probably know, members can give each other merit badges at any time and as many as they wish to give. However, you can only receive community recognition for a merit badge from each person that issues it every 14 days.

There are multiple ways to earn merit badges through contests and auctions but the easiest way to earn one is through reviewing. Did you know the 100 members that review the most regularly here at Writing.com receive a Reviewing Merit Badge through Writing.com Support automatically? It's true! It's issued monthly and isn't dependent on anything except stepping up and reviewing your fellow members right here. There is a separate listing for the most credited reviewers which means the reviewers have received 'credit' sent in from looking at the review board and sending a member gift points through the drop-down menu attached to each review.

Reviewing is an extremely important part of the Writing.Com community. Helpful, honest reviews assist our authors to improve their talents. The Reviewing  Open in new Window.page displays recent, public reviews given by Writing.Com members to various items within the site. You can reach this by clicking the word "Reviewers" on the left-hand menu. From that page, there are several links that you can click and access the lists of reviewers mentioned above as well as some amazing items to kickstart your reviewing! The links are at the top of the page and look like this:

Most Credited Reviewers · Most Active Reviewers · Most Active Raters
Most Actively Reviewing Groups · Items To Review · About Reviewing

So what are you waiting for? Get to earning those merit badges! *Smile*

Ask & Answer

I received the following feedback to my last newsletter [#8879] "The Most Important Rule of WritingOpen in new Window. and I'm proud to share it with you.

From The Writer Author Icon
Hi! I'm trying to write a book in my spare time, but I'm only about three chapters in and I've been working on it for almost 4 months! I keep getting stuck on what should happen next, or I get distracted, and I barely write 3 sentences a day. Do you have any ideas on how to get my creative juices flowing, or at least help me stay focused? Thanks, your friend, The Writer

Hi Writer! Thanks for writing in. I wish I could offer the perfect advice but truthfully, different things work for different people. If you're stalled writing your novel, I suggest trying your hand at some Flash Fiction to spark your muse. I would suggest checking out "Daily Flash Fiction Challenge"  Open in new Window. by Arakun the twisted raccoon Author Icon . Good luck!
