About This Newsletter

"A Poet never takes notes. You never take notes in a love affair." -- Robert Frost.

My Love Affair with Thin Mints & Lemonades:
So I stocked up on thin mints and have enough to last me 6 months! Lol. I also bought a case of Lemonades from my co-worker (which she greatly appreciated). It's tough for me to turn down the Girl Scouts at the show and sells in front of the stores, but I must. I'm cookie bursting at the seems. So… how do you let someone down gently? My son is trying to sell a discount card for 5.00 in front of the store heard, "I left my wallet at home." I guess it's gentle, right?

March is a long, busy month! It's Music in School, Women's History month, and Red Cross month. I've done blogs on the Red Cross before. Despite it's faults, I do believe in the organization and I think it ultimately benefits us. I used to give blood often until 1996. I was stationed in Germany during an outbreak of Mad Cow disease in England. Since I was in Europe during that time period, I am now banned for life for giving blood.

Jimmy Carter 1st proclaimed women's history month in 1980. Women have been an inspiration throughout our nation's history. Question for you: What woman has been an inspiration for you?

My inspiration for this newsletter comes from the following:

Joy shares a story about Agatha Christie. Quoting Joy: "For example, in December 1926, her (Agatha Christie) first husband Archie, who had fallen for another woman, asked Agatha Christie for a divorce and then after a quarrel left the house. The same evening, Agatha left the house, too, and disappeared from sight. Her disappearance suddenly became the news of the day, with a newspaper offering a prize and the police looking for her."

Love can be filled with great passion and great disappointment. Agatha Christie became well know as a writer. I thought I'd share a love affair or two with you and beg the question: Right or Wrong?

Letter from the editor

Napoleon might have been a ruthless French soldier and leader, but his great love was Josephine. He was 26 and she was a 32 year old widow with 2 kids when he married her. Not shocking by today's standards. Yes, they cheated on each other while Napoleon was at war, but they always came back to each other. Their love letters were passionate. It was with a heavy heart that Napoleon divorced her so he could marry a woman who could have a child by him. Little tidbit: Josephine dressed in a very feminine manner for the day, but had black teeth. Also, before meeting Napoleon, her name as Rose. Napoleon didn't like Rose so he called her Josephine.

She remained devoted to him, but died after she heard of his first imprisonment. When Napoleon died his last word was: "Josephine."

Napoleon & Josephine: Right or Wrong?

Percy Shelley was one of the best romantic and lyric poems of England in the early 1820's. He didn't live long and didn't know fame while he lived, but during his lifetime he met Mary Godwin. Totally scandalous, he had married Harriet, but none of their family approved of the marriage and eventually Percy fell out of love. He left her pregnant with his son, Charles, to run away with Mary Godwin, the daughter of one of his mentors. (and believe me, there's more to THIS story!) A few years later his estranged wife, Harriet, was found dead (drowned) and he married Mary. The Shelleys traveled all over Europe, including Italy. Percy died young, in a boating accident. Interesting note: A judge did not give custody of Percy's kids with Harriet to Percy and Mary. Instead, he gave them to a foster family because Percy was an atheist. The Shelleys inspired each other in their drama filled romance. Mary Godwin Shelley is best known for writing "Frankenstein."

We all know that Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward were a passionate Hollywood couple that were married for over 50 years, but did you know they met in 1953? While Paul was married to his 1st wife? They became friends, and that's all until 1957 when they were in the film, "Long, Hot Summer." The chemistry was undeniable on and off the screen. Paul's 1st wife agreed to a divorce and Paul married Joanne in 1958. They had their ups and down but stayed married for over 50 years until Paul Newman died in 2008. Note: Paul Newman was a pretty nice guy. Aside from his striking blue eyes, he felt "guilty as hell" divorcing his 1st wife and he would "carry that with him for the rest of his life." He raced cars and created "Newman's Own," an organization that gives 100% of the profits to charities.

Paul & Joanne: Right and wrong?

Question for you: What's the appeal of a love affair? Why have them?
