About This Newsletter

Sometimes it's hard to look at another piece of writing, be it a poem, story, article, novel, blog post, whatever, and know that yours is just as well written (if not better) as the one getting all the attention, but no one is noticing yours. It can leave you wondering if there's any point spending all that time and effort on your item if no one is going to notice it.

Don't despair. I'm going to let you in on a little secret. *Wink*

Letter from the editor

This newsletter isn't about teaching you how to craft a better poem, story or blog post. There are a variety of resources (including other site newsletters) to help with that. But many authors are stumped when it comes to getting their work noticed. After all that effort and time spent on their writing, how do they get people to notice their work?

Bear with me if there's a little repetition in this newsletter. It's because this secret rule is both simple and highly adaptable to a multitude of situations.

How do I get noticed on the Writing.com newsfeed?
Answer: For every post you share on the newsfeed, leave a comment on at least ten other members' newsfeed posts.
Don't leave a comment saying 'Hey, please check out my work!'
Do leave a comment that is relevant to the post you're responding to.

How do I get my blog post noticed?
Answer: For every blog post you write, leave a comment on at least ten other members' blog posts.
Don't leave a comment saying 'Hey, please check out my blog!'
Do leave a comment that is relevant to the blog post you're responding to.

How do I get noticed on Twitter?
Answer: For every tweet you make, respond to at least ten other people's tweets.
Don't leave a comment saying 'Hey, please check out my tweet!'
Do leave a comment that is relevant to the tweet you're responding to.

How do I get noticed on Facebook?
Answer: For every post you share on the newsfeed, leave a comment on at least ten other people's newsfeed posts.
Don't leave a comment saying 'Hey, please check out my FB page!'
Do leave a comment that is relevant to the post you're responding to.

In business, this is referred to as networking. It also works for Youtube, Twitch, LinkedIn, Instagram, and pretty much any form of social media you can name.

It also works for reviews. If you want to receive reviews, you need to send reviews. For every item you publish, write ten reviews of other members' work.

In case you're wondering, while responding to ten blog posts or newsfeed posts from a single member is totally fine, it's not the aim of the game here. You're networking. That means connecting with ten other people. And not the same ten people every time, although there can definitely be some overlap or repetition.

The real secret is that you'll start enjoying it. You'll make meaningful connections and you'll even make friends. Soon, you'll be madly networking all over the place, and you'll just call it your social life. *Laugh* Then, if you're anything like me, you'll be talking about your Writing.com friends to your real life friends as if they all know each other and you'll end up having to explain who your 'imaginary friends' are. *Laugh*
