Letter from the editor

*Delight* I went digging for some more comic poem forms and came up with the Cento! Never heard of it! *Shock* The word comes from the latin "patchwork" and denotes that it is made up of parts of a poet's works mixed up together in a poem as a parody or even a tribute to the author. Modern centos mix a variety of lines from various poets to make a new poem. They are often witty and create humour or irony in the interplay of images.

Ausonius was the Roman originator of the form, which was first used to give homage to the great writers like Virgil and Homer..

There is a Shakespeare Cento at https://wantoncreation.wordpress.com/2012/04/12/on-poetry-part-5-comic-verse/

The form involves you reading your favourite poets and choosing 1-2 lines from a number of their poems or a number of poets. Collect them and then at your leisure, weave them together, see what tribute or parody can come forth!

You can:
play with syntax, rhythm, rhyme, mixing lyric with experimental forms,
Play with lineation/enjambment so that selected lines are not always one complete line
Change tenses (or not)
Add conjunctions/prepositions(or not)
Use traditional punctuation –or none at all
You may discard some lines.

The idea is to have an adventure and have fun with other's words! *Cool*
"You may not add your own words!" *Wink*
