“Friendship ... is born at the moment when one man says to another "What! You too? I thought that no one but myself . . .”
― C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves

In celebration of my thirteenth anniversary here, I wanted to share the reason I have been here that long. Are you ready? Because this is not just a website where writers gather. It's not just a place to improve your writing. It's not just a place to read some wonderful stories. It's not just a place to learn more about stories and poetry, or even plays or script writing. No, it's all that but it's so much more.

When I created my account here, I was interested in sharing my writing to see if I was any good. I'm sure a lot of you joined for the same exact reason. I have had periods of activity, I have written stories, learned how to write poetry, even joined a group to learn more about writing a script. I have been inactive but then always was drawn back. Some of you might know what brings me back. It's not just posting a story or getting a review. Although, that is a wonderful part that started this journey. The reason I come back, day after day, week after week is the people. I've met people that have become some of my closest friends.

Some people say, well this isn't a social network, if I wanted to talk to people I'll get on Facebook. I understand that but most of the people I know on Facebook are from my regular everyday life or work. The fun part about making friends here is these are people you would never have met walking down the street or going to school or work. I find it fascinating that I come here and can talk (and learn!) from my many friends in not only different states but several different countries. It's kind of awesome!

The reason I'm sharing this is because many of you might not realize what you're missing out on. I'm not an extremely social person but if you take the time to become active in this community, you will find like-minded amazing people that will change your life and you just might change theirs. I'm not exaggerating. Take the plunge, review that story, post in that forum and share your favorite movie, song, poet, color ... whatever! Take the time to share yourself and you will not regret it. I promise.

Now for those of you that have been here awhile - share yourselves! I haven't been active reviewing lately but I need to change that. I need to encourage those newer members. I need to reach out and say hello and review. You do too! Take the time. It's so important.  Wind Talker Open in new Window. [E]
Alaska's Mother Nature, a dog team and their musher- A spiritual non-fiction short story
by arctic spirit Author Icon

Excerpt:
The ominous lenticular cloud, black as night, darkened the mid-day sky and my upbeat mood. It appeared out of nowhere as we started the mile long descent from the crest of Topkok hill, to the sandy shore of Cape Nome on the Bering Sea.

Ten days, a thousand miles, had taken us from the city streets of Anchorage, over the Alaska Range, through the Interior, down the Yukon River, to the coast. Now the sparkling blue waters of the sea marked the near finale of the arduous Iditarod race. With only 50 miles to go, we were at the mercy of this last section of exposed trail, notorious for sudden, extreme storms and perilous winds.
So close, the end.
Yet, so far.

The lies that tell the truth Open in new Window. [13+]
Man faces fear by telling his lies and truths.
by jaden laing Author Icon

Excerpt:
I woke up hungover again, and to be honest I don't even know how. Every day it seems to get worse. I get more hungover and forget more and more. If it doesn't stop soon, then I don't think I’ll be alive anymore.

Invalid Item Open in new Window. []

by A Guest Visitor

Excerpt:
August 17, 2005, two murders, Mr. and Mrs. Haddin were executed. Though they were married, they were murdered at different spots, at different times, and in different ways. Yet somehow, I feel as if the two are connected, as they are husband and wife. People shrug it off, like it never even happened. Yeah, it did. People assume they aren't related, when any detective, would at least think that. I know they do think it, but they won't admit it.

On this morning
a morning thick with dew
leaves of Nasturtium
and Lady's Mantle glitter
candied with droplets
that cling in a globular crust
to each hair
and dangle around the edges
of each leaf

Desperately Wanting Open in new Window. [13+]
Inspired by Better Than Ezra's song "Desperately Wanting"
by Novaire Author Icon

Excerpt:
The sun was just beginning its descent as Tony made his way down the dusty road. A young woman walked beside him, gripping his calloused hand. Her belly bulged slightly, further stretching the already-tight cotton shirt she wore. Tony looked briefly at her.
“You sure you want to do this?”
She couldn’t meet his face.
“Yeah, I’m sure. I have to do it sometime, and the sooner the better, right?”
The two advanced a bit before Tony somberly replied.
“Not always.”

A Fair Trade - Ch 8 Open in new Window. [18+]
A Beetlejuice Fanfiction - Betelgeuse/Lydia - Safety for her and Freedom for him
by StoryWeaver4Ever Author Icon

Excerpt:
"Betelgeuse, we are not juicing to my parent's house." The obviously annoyed woman stood in the kitchen with both hands on her hips, as she shook her head at her husband sitting at the table.

The poltergeist's bottle green eyes turned up from his newspaper and gave her a pointed look with raised brows. "Why the hell not?"

A sigh fell from her pink lips, before she answered him. "I'm not that far along and we don't even know if it's safe for me and the baby. I don't want to risk it, Betelgeuse." She didn't mean to make it seem like his power would hurt them, but the truth of the situation was that she shouldn't even be pregnant. She didn't want to do anything that could jeopardize the pregnancy.
